Senate Democrats to Filibuster Alito Nomination?

Monday January 30, 2006
Democratic activists and some senators (notably, Massachusetts Senators Kennedy and Kerry) are trying to round up the 41 votes needed to filibuster the nomination of Samuel Alito to the US Supreme Court. Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee moved his nomination to the floor on a straight party vote. Bob Fertik is maintaining a running tally of the "Alito 48" -- 48 possible "yes" votes for filibuster (contains contact information). If you feel strongly about Alito's nomination, the toll-free numbes for the Senate are 888-355-3588 and 888-818-6641 -- ask for your Senator by name.
